Explains the two options to reship an already shipped order - Reship the order or Create another Shipment.
Why would you need to reship an order?
You may occasionally have to reship an order you have already sent, perhaps as part of an exchange or to replace a lost shipment. Or, in some cases, orders may import into the Shipped status, but you still need to create a label for them.
Use Reship in ShipStation to create a second, unique, shipping label for a shipment that you have already shipped. Use it also when you don’t want to (or are unable to) void the original label. ShipStation lets you Create Another Shipment, but those shipments lack a crucial component: items! This workflow allows you to create additional shipments that will retain the original shipment’s configuration as well as the same items from the original shipment.
Once an order is in the Shipped status, the shipment details cannot be edited. To create another label for the order you must either use the Create Another Shipment option or use Reship to place the order into Awaiting Shipment status.
-
The Reship option moves order(s) into the Awaiting Shipment status, where you can then create a label. This method also lets you use all the order management features available to those orders, including bulk updates and batch shipping.
-
The Create Another Shipment button quickly creates a single label for one order. This blank order will not contain any items from a previous order.
Reship vs Restore
Reship does not Void a label. It will not cancel, or impact the existing shipment in any way.
Use Restore Orders to move Canceled orders back to Awaiting Shipment status.
You can reship an order from Order Details and from the Orders grid.
Follow these steps to use Reship via the Order Details.
-
Locate an order that is in Shipped status that you would like to reship, and click its order number to open Order Details.
-
Click the Reship button above the Shipment Record.
A popup will open to show that ShipStation will clone the current shipment and place it in Awaiting Shipment status. Additionally, this action will not affect the original order shipment nor will change the order source it came from.
-
Click the Reship button in the popup to confirm that you want to create a new shipment.
The new shipment will load in the Order Details. The items from the original shipment will show in the Order Items section under Additional Items.
No Shipment Record, or This shipment is imported as Shipped
For orders with no shipment record, and for orders that imported as Shipped, a success popup will appear instead of the Reship popup. The order will move to Awaiting Shipment status. There you can review the shipping configuration to re-process and reship the order.
That's it! You can now make any necessary updates and create new labels for the Reship order.
You can select multiple orders from the Shipped status of the Orders grid to reship in bulk.
-
Select the orders in Shipped status on the Orders grid that you want to reship.
-
Click the Reship button in the actions bar.
A popup will show you what will happen:
-
Orders from your marketplace that import into Shipped status: The status of these orders in ShipStation will change from Shipped to Awaiting Shipment.
-
Orders that had a shipment or fulfillment created in ShipStation: These orders will have another shipment created that is associated with that order. They will be available to view in Awaiting Shipments or in the Order Details.
That's it! You can now locate the orders in Awaiting Shipment to make any necessary updates and create new labels for them.
With your newly created shipment, you can add new items, remove items, and edit any Additional Items.
Once you have used Reship to move your order to Awaiting Shipment, you will see an Edit option on the Shipment Items section.
Click Edit, then a new popup will open. Here you can remove items, edit the quantity, or click + Add Item to add new items.
These items and edits to these items will appear on your pick lists and packing slips just as if they had been on the shipment originally.
-
To permanently dismiss the Reship informational panel, click Don’t show this again. This action will hide that panel for your specific user on all future reshipped orders. You can still see this information by hovering over the i icon next to the Additional Items header in the Order Items section.
-
You can delete a shipment created through Reship so long as there are no items added from the marketplace.
-
Reship shipments have the Do Not Notify the Marketplace shipping option turned on by default. If you uncheck this option to let a Reship shipment communicate with the marketplace, you should confirm that your order source will accept this additional information.
-
ShipStation inventory tracking will run as normal on this Reship shipment.
-
Automation does not run on shipments created via Reship.
-
The Shipment Activity will record when a new reship shipment was created, who created it, and any item modifications made.
-
Reship is only available through the Orders grid and through the Order Details. It will not be available in the Shipments grid directly.
-
Customs Items will be transferred to the new shipment, but if you add other items or remove existing items, you will need to manually update that information.
-
Reship is available through ShipStation's dashboard only and is not currently available through the ShipStation API.
Using the Create Another Shipment button will create another label as well as another shipment record for the order, but this shipment record will not contain any items or item details.
The Create Another Shipment option is good if you need to quickly create a new label for just one order. You may also want to use this option if your carrier does not support multi-package shipments and the order must be shipped in multiple boxes but cannot be split in ShipStation.
Unable to Edit
Create Another Shipment does not create a new order, and you cannot add items to an order this way. If you need to create a new order, follow the process to create a new Manual Order instead.
Each shipment for the order will have its own unique tracking number. The tracking number is located in the Shipment Review Card for the selected shipment.
Notifications for Additional Shipments
Since these are new shipments, ShipStation will try to send new customer notification emails and marketplace notifications unless these options are first disabled for the shipment.
For a smoother notification process, the following options may work better for your needs:
These features are the most efficient methods to ensure your customers and marketplaces are updated properly.
